This platform aims to collect and store our memories, stories, narratives, and photos, among others. It has a high ceiling or vast space. But also in the spirit of the University parcours - it also aims to vault - to place hands on an object to cross it or move ahead, to move, to connect spaces by leaping.

"University parcours" highlights the dynamic and processual nature of studying and working in the university (see Pfaff-Czarnecka and Prekodravac 2016). As a transformative social space, the School of Social Sciences (SOSS)---a community of faculty, professionals, support staff, and students---aims to enable one another as we embrace new schemes of engagement with our own self and others and as we strategize toward personal, professional, and collective aspirations in the future.

The Ateneo Martial Law Museum, in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, the Ateneo de Manila University’s Rizal Library, the University of the Philippines - Diliman, and Works of Heart Design Studio, proudly presents the Martial Law Museum and Library.

https://library.martiallawmuseum.ph

With an initial release of 50+ documents, the digital library is an archive of documentary and visual records related to the period of Martial Law in the Philippines. Curated and annotated by historians, academics, and experts, it is envisioned to be an accessible and searchable database on the period, open to all.

In collaboration with Ateneo College Class 1972, the Ateneo de Manila Department of Communication remembers the year 1972 by sharing the speech of the class valedictorian, Joven D. Reyes, Summa Cum Laude, AB Mathematics. In his speech, Reyes laments the unfulfilled ideals that the Class stood for, even as he salutes his batchmates who dared to take other paths.

How much has the Ateneo de Manila changed in 50 years?

That is a question Ateneans of College Class 1972 are asking as they prepare to celebrate their Golden Jubilee, the same year the country is marking the 50 years since Ferdinand Marcos Sr declared martial law and took the country down a ruinous path of corruption and violence.

Many changes happened in the Ateneo since Class 1972. Ateneo became a co-educational institution, accepting women enrollees in school year 1973-1974. More scholars from public schools were admitted.

This rephotography project, repeating photographs of the same site in different periods, combines old pictures taken from the Aegis 1972 Yearbook and the Class publication “Shape of Things to Come” and new ones created by a Communication Department team led by faculty member Aaron Vicencio. It documents the physical changes and marks some of the sites that played a part in the transformation of the Ateneo.

Ambeth Ocampo, Michael D. Pante, and Meynardo P. Mendoza, Ph.D. — Historians on Historical Revisionism: Martial Law in the Philippines In this episode of Talakayan, Ambeth Ocampo, Michael D. Pante, and Meynardo P. Mendoza discuss the issue of historical revisionism, and how it is facilitated by digital technology.

They present how social media serve as tools for conveying alternative histories, using martial law in the Philippines as a jumping off point. They insist that historical accounts provide avenues for thinking about the present, so that we will not repeat the past.

Talakayan is a series which presents how scholarship merges with practice by highlighting innovations, creative solutions, or responses to the complexities, ambiguities, and vulnerabilities we collectively face today. It is produced and shared for the benefit of learners everywhere.

Talakayan is available on Arete’s YouTube channel for free. Talakayan is an Areté Production done in partnership with Loyola Schools Department of Communication and the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Center for Multimedia Communication.

We have heard the names of the 11 Ateneo martyrs repeated numerous times this month. Now it is our privilege to hear their stories directly from Dr. Montiel, author of Living and Dying, the book that chronicled the lives of our very own heroes.

Congratulations to Inez Ponce de Leon on being named a 2022 Purdue Distinguished Agricultural Sciences Education and Communication (ASEC) Alumnus.

Her most recent column on Inquirer.net can be read here.

The Korean Studies Program (KSP) successfully hosted the trial Test of Proficiency in Korean Internet-based Test (TOPIK IBT) last September 24, 2022 at the PLDT-CTC Building on the Loyola Heights Campus. The trial test was administered through the generous support of South Korea’s National Institute for International Education (NIIED) and as part of the Ateneo de Manila University’s application for accreditation to be first and only university-based TOPIK IBT testing center in the country.

Apart from its regular academic courses, the KSP also offers extramural courses in Korean that are open to the public. The administration of a standardized test such as TOPIK will offer a valid and reliable assessment of KSP’s performance as a knowledge provider and help it make decisions regarding curriculum adjustments and faculty development. It plans to share its experience and expertise in the field of Korean language education to other higher education institutions to ensure sustainability of Korean Studies in the Philippines.

In the photos are members of the trial TOPIK IBT organizing team (Korean Studies Program faculty and staff, information technology experts from the Office of Management Information Systems, Department of Information Systems & Computer Science, and Department of Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering, and Minor in Korean Studies volunteer students).

The Ateneo de Manila University - School of Social Sciences together with the Institute of Philippine Culture invite you to Transfiguring Mindanao Conversation Series on “Constructing News on Mindanao: Mediating Truths”

REGISTRATION LINK bit.ly/MRWebinar12

The webinar will feature Ms. Luz Rimban, Dr. Estelle Ladrido, and Dr. Ariel Ponce. Ms. Luz Rimban will discuss the limitations of the coverage of the 2017 Marawi siege that resulted in very few stories that helped the public make sense of what was going on, or stories on the conflict from the point of view of the Meranaw. The media hardly touched on the massive disaster that was unfolding, and the consequences for the people of Marawi. On the other hand, Dr. Ladrido and Dr. Ponce will talk about how news representations separate and marginalize minorities. They looked into Mindanao news viewers’ interpretations of how Mindanao is represented on a news program.

As its humble contribution to the crafting of the next Philippine Development Plan, the Ateneo Center for Economic Research and Development conducted a briefing dubbed "Moving On and Moving Up: Bold New Directions for the Philippine Economy" on August 25, 2022. The speakers were: Dr. Alvin P. Ang ("Deflating Inflation"), Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda ("Economic and Fiscal Recovery and Resiliency"), and Dr. Cielito F.
