SOL 2025: Saludo Obra Lunsad
In celebration of International Women’s Month, the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALiWW), in cooperation with Ateneo de Manila University Press and the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, invites you to this year’s SOL: Saludo Obra Lunsad, an awarding, exhibit, and book launch for Professor Emeritus Soledad S. Reyes, recipient of the Paz Marquez Benitez award.
This event is on March 7 (Friday), 1230-2:00 pm at the Natividad Galang Fajardo Room, Ground Floor Dela Costa Building, Ateneo de Manila University.
In memory of Paz Marquez Benitez (1894-1983), a trailblazer for Filipino women writers in English, this year’s Saludo entails the Paz Marquez Benitez Award, an event that highlights the contributions of Filipino women writers to Philippine literature in English. This year we are honoring Dr Soledad S. Reyes for her countless contributions to literary criticism and women’s writings.
The depth of her contributions, her Obra, will be celebrated through the exhibit Woman of Note: The Life and Legacy of Soledad S. Reyes. This exhibit highlights her journey as a scholar, editor, and advocate for Filipino literature, particularly the exploration of gender, class, and cultural narratives. The exhibit runs from 7-21 March 2025 at the ALIWW Reading Room.
Tied to this event is Lunsad, a book launch of I am a Voice, Soledad S. Reyes’ translation of Genoveva-Edroza Matute’s Ako’y Isang Tinig. I Am a Voice highlights how Edroza-Matute skillfully deployed modern fiction techniques to craft worlds inhabited by three-dimensional characters whose understanding of a complex world is rendered in nontraditional ways—subtle and psychologically nuanced.
We hope that guests and the Ateneo community join us in this event celebrating the life and contributions of Dr. Soledad S. Reyes. For invited guests, a lunch will be served from 1130 at the Dela Costa Hall Reading Room. A merienda cena will be served outside the ALiWW Reading Room for those who attended her event.
