Legacies of Pearls: Celebrating 30 Years of Women's Pamana at ALIWW
The Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALiWW) cordially invites you to join us in celebrating three decades of empowering women’s voices at our 30th anniversary exhibit, Legacies of Pearls: Celebrating Three Decades of Women’s Pamana at ALiWW which runs from 22 November 2024 unti 30th January 2025 at the 5th Floor, New Rizal Library and the ALiWW Reading Room.
In her memoir, Paz Policarpio Mendez compared life’s moments to pearls, carefully strung together as a symbol of enduring love and legacy. In the same spirit, ALiWW has spent the last 30 years weaving together the stories and achievements of Filipino women, creating a collection that celebrates their contributions to society.
Legacies of Pearls pays homage to the cultural treasures, or pamana, that generations of women have shared. This special exhibit, available both digitally and onsite, reflects ALiWW’s vital role in preserving women’s achievements across various disciplines, from Arts and Literature to the Sciences and Social Sciences. The onsite exhibit presents a retrospective of ALiWW’s rich history, highlighting past exhibits, notable book launches, and awards that have championed women’s writing and accomplishments. Visitors can explore artifacts, manuscripts, and works that embody the aspirations and contributions of exceptional women in Philippine culture. At the same time, the exhibit showcases particular themes that showcases the intersections of women's cultural contribution.
The digital component, Pamana Online, offers a thematic research guide inspired by these intersections, making the collection accessible to a broader audience and fostering contemporary conversations on gender, culture, and equality. Through this, ALiWW aims to bridge the legacies of these trailblazing women with the dreams of the younger generation, inspiring an inclusive vision for the future.
We hope that you can join us in celebrating the legacies of the women in the ALiWW collection by visiting ALiWW and our exhibit.
