Defending The West Philippine Sea: Achieving Genuine National Security Against A Backdrop Of Global Shifts In Power And Persistent Domestic Security Challenge
The research, titled "Defending The West Philippine Sea: Achieving Genuine National Security Against a Backdrop of Global Shifts in Power and Persistent Domestic Security Challenges," seeks to address the Philippines' strategic approaches to safeguarding its claims in the West Philippine Sea amid escalating regional tensions and shifts in global power dynamics. Central to this study is an analysis of the Philippines' policy options in response to China's assertive actions, the expectations and realities of the Philippines-U.S. alliance, opportunities for collaboration with other strategic partners, and the role ASEAN and other multilateral institutions play in the region. Utilizing data from elite and mass opinion surveys, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), this research provides a comprehensive view of national security concerns, drawing insights from experts and stakeholders to evaluate the intricate interactions of these policy choices with other influential variables, ultimately aiming to inform and refine the Philippines’ national security strategies.
