Diabetes and Well Being: Start Them Young
This coming November, marks the commemoration of the World's Diabetes Day. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition with a growing prevalence in the country, affecting about 7.1% of adults. The condition is also seen in more young adults, with diabetes found in about 2.65% of individuals less than 45 years old. With these current trends, the Philippines is predicted to be among one of the top 10 countries in the world with the highest number of individuals living with diabetes by the year 2035. (Ghisi et al, 2023; Uy, Jimeno 2021).
Now is a great time to make a positive change in our community's health, together! Mark your calendars and join us for an informative seminar entitled “Diabetes and well being: Start them young”.
This activity is part of the Nutricount Week spearheaded by the School of Science and Engineering arm of the Sanggunian ng mga Mag aaral ng Ateneo De Manila with the Ateneo Food Safety and Nutrition Advisory Council. On this week, the community is enjoined to take note of estimated calorie counts for selected dishes at the AMPC and select Gonzaga concessionaires to guide the community on the value of making the right food choices!

This seminar is aimed at raising awareness about diabetes , enhancing public health education and supporting those on their journey to better health.

This program is spearheaded by the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism (PCEDM) in collaboration with Office of the University Physician and Clinic and the Office of the AVP for Health, Care and Well-Being, with its partners, the Ateneo Food Safety and Nutrition Advisory Council (AFSNAC), the SOSE Sanggunian ng mga Mag aaral ng Ateneo De Manila, the Higher Education Office of Health Services Loyola Schools, Occupational Safety and Health Committee (OSH), and other unit offices and student organizations under AFSNAC namely: Office for Food Safety and Quality Assurance (OFSQA), Office of Human Resource Management and Organization Development (OHRMOD), Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), Office of Student Activities (OSA), the Pre-Medical Society of Ateneo (PMSA), Health Sciences Society (HSS), Council of Organizations of the Ateneo (COA), Ateneo Biological Association (Ateneo BOX), Ateneo Resident Students Association (ARSA), Fitness Improvement Team (FIT) and Ateneo Peers.
