Leadership Challenges in Implementing ESD in Asia: A Roundtable Discussion on Education for Sustainable Development
On 5 November 2024, the Lily Gokongwei Ngochua Leadership Academy (The Lily) and the ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC) will be jointly organizing the hybrid event, Leadership Challenges in Implementing ESD in Asia: A roundtable discussion on Education for Sustainable Development.
Aimed towards university administrators and faculty in the region, the roundtable discussion will focus on education for sustainable development (ESD), which is recognized as integral to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ESD refers to education that focuses on knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values oriented towards ecological conversion. Despite recognition of its integral role, building and implementing an ESD curriculum necessitates a careful scrutiny of the local context while navigating the dynamic realities of the global community.
In this context, the roundtable discussion will explore the role, challenges, and opportunities for higher education institutions (HEIs) in preparing university students to become sustainability champions in their respective communities. It aims to provide higher education leaders' insight into the relevance of integrating ESD into the curriculum and how to train students to meet the demands of the field. The session will include a keynote on mainstreaming ESD in both university curricula and community-based initiatives, and a panel discussion composed of industry practitioners.
