Embedding Technics, Engineering an Empire: Day 3 of Contacts and Continuities II: 125 Years of Philippine-American Encounters
The public is cordially invited to the third day of Contacts and Continuities II: 125 Years of Philippine-American Encounters, a conference series at the Ateneo de Manila University. Day 3: Embedding Technics, Engineering an Empire will take place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the fifth floor of the Rizal Library and will feature the keynote address by Ambeth Ocampo followed by three panels.
Special Collections of the Rizal Library features Hilario S. Balderas Jr., Bernadette M. Garilao, Russel N. Castro, Rosalyn Santos Diño, and Tommy dela Cruz. Discussions will explore the American colonial period's impact on Filipino women's activism, cultural adaptation, historical insights, American rule's effects, and newspapers' role in supporting independence. The panel is complemented by an exhibition on the second floor of the Rizal Library Special Collections building.
The Cold War in the Philippines features Meynardo P. Mendoza, Francis C. Sollano, and Nikki B. Carsi Cruz. Discussions will cover the Carter administration’s human rights policy, the 1987 Philippine Constitution's geopolitical influences, and the Ford Foundation's role in nation-building through projects like the Rizal Library.
Issues of Health and Nutrition in the Early American Period features presentations by Alvin D. Cabalquinto, David O. Lozada III, Felice Noelle Rodriguez, Olivia Anne M. Habana, and Sarah Jessica E. Wong. Discussions will cover American medical practices, infectious diseases' impact on military operations, nutrition changes, and Dr. Pedro A. Rodriguez's role in the Zamboanga General Hospital.
