ArtSpeak: Language, Resistance, and the Hidden Transcript

Centering the lecture on his artistic practice, Endress will explore Chile’s dictatorial past, post-coloniality, the mestizo baroque in Latin America, and community-based practices. Endress teaches new media and social practice at George Mason University in Virginia, USA. Born in Chile, he has exhibited extensively throughout the world, most recently at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), Land Art Biennial in Mongolia, Getty Pacific Standard Time, and Art Paris. His collective practice involves Floating Lab Collective in 2007 and IceBox Collective in 2020; both are teams of interdisciplinary artists who deploy innovative art projects in collaboration with urban communities. The works of Endress focus on syncretism in the Andes, displacement in the Caribbean, and mobile art-making practices. He received his MFA in Video Art from Syracuse University, and has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Creative Capital Fund.
