Brief Description of the Topic:
Teams and organizations often struggle with two central challenges: effective collaboration and fostering creativity. In this seminar, I will present two sets of projects that highlight the role of AI as both a research method and a research topic. In the first part, I will discuss the often-overlooked challenges in achieving consensus and decisive action in collaborative groups. Using computational tools, I have simulated hypothetical group negotiations to understand why collaborative groups sometimes fail to reach agreement and what we can do to address this issue. In the second part, I will briefly explore how novel generative AI tools shape creative work and their long-term implications for creativity and creative industries. Although AI is a phenomenon of interest rather than a tool in this study, I aim to briefly discuss how I use AI to measure creativity and study collaborative outcomes in creative teams.

About the Speaker:
Sam is a PhD Candidate in Organizational Behavior at the UCL School of Management. He researches how using AI shapes creativity and collaboration at work while also employing AI techniques to investigate ways to enhance collaboration and creativity in teams. His particular questions of interest include understanding the long-term impact of AI on creativity and problem solving, as well as identifying the barriers and enablers of successful collaboration in creative and problem-solving teams.
Before joining UCL, Sam worked as a data scientist at BNP Paribas' headquarters in Paris and as an analyst in an AI think tank. He graduated with a Master’s in Management from ESSEC Business School, a Master’s in Economics from CY Cergy Paris University, and a Bachelor’s in Management Engineering from the Ateneo de Manila University.
