Please feel free to forward to your colleagues and networks. Apologies if you're receiving this more than once.

The ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC), housed at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, is organizing a webinar titled “Revisiting the City: A Webinar on the Tensions and Intentions in Urban Sustainability''. Happening on 16 April 2024 (Tuesday) at 3:00 to 5:00pm (MNL time, GMT+8) via Zoom, the webinar will explore the pivotal role of Southeast Asian cities in advancing sustainability education, especially among the youth.

The webinar will highlight that cities are a melting pot of the world’s wicked problems, but through thoughtful decisions of the citizens, cities continue to play a significant role in mainstreaming sustainability. The webinar will feature two talks:

"Nature-based solutions in Southeast Asia: A review of the literature and future perspectives"

by Dr. Erich Wolff

Research Fellow, Nanyang Technological University Singapore

The first talk will delve into ‘tensions in the city’, or the interplay of forces that exist in the city, such as the tensions between cultural preservation and modernity, and economic progress and environmental conservation. The talk will emphasize how these tensions present opportunities and challenges in efforts toward urban climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.

"Appreciation of Philippine native trees for biodiversity conservation"

by Ms. Arceli Tungol

Founder, Philippine Native Tree Enthusiast

The second talk will focus on ‘intentions in the city’ or the desires to green and rewild the city. This talk will shed light on the trends, successes, and challenges in the initiatives of people and organizations in regreening the urban environment amidst the backdrop of a bustling city.

This webinar is part of a series of public events of AUN-EEC under the “Rewilding the City” banner theme which promotes urban sustainability.
