18th Spring Film Festival

18th Spring Film Festival

As the anticipated Spring Film Festival (SFF) Celebrates its eighteenth year, guests can once again look forward to another set of carefully curated Chinese films. The annual event promises dragon and lion dances, painting workshops, and several stunning performances that should not be missed!

As with previous years, the 18th Spring Film Festival will be held at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall. This event is organized by the Ateneo Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies together with Ateneo Celadon—the premier Chinese-Filipino organization of Ateneo de Manila University, Embassy of the People's Republic of China, and Shangri-La Plaza Mall. The films will also be brought to the several Robinsons Cinemas like Robinsons Galleria Ortigas, Cebu, South, and Robinsons Movieworld Pavia, Iloilo, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Flexo Marketing Corporation, Cinematheque, Rotaract Club of Chinatown-Manila, Red Carpet, Molina & Sons, as well as our media partners ChinoyTV, and Manila Bulletin.

The Gala Night, which will be held on the 23rd of January, will feature a variety of stunning performances. Aside from the above-mentioned dragon and lion dances, guests can look forward to an exclusive screening of the SFF’s opening film: comedy-thriller movie Full River Red, one of the top grossing films when released during the year 2023. Set in 12th-century China, the movie is a combination of masterful storytelling, superb character development, artful visuals, and an original soundtrack.

SFF will also feature 5 other films over the course of the week.

Tackling the airline industry, The Captain shows the importance of strong-will and perseverance as a pilot attempts to prevent a plane crash.

Looking Up touches hearts when a space shuttle flight turns out to have an accident, and the astronaut starts remembering the lessons his father taught him while he was growing up.

Romance and Feelings develop in the movie White Snake as a snake catcher saves a young woman.

In the movie Legend of the Demon Cat, peace appears to have been broken in Chang’an City, causing a series of strange events.

Based on a true story in 2015, Chinese firefighters struggle to contain a huge fire after an oil pipeline explodes as seen in the film The Bravest.
