Sifting Through the Good: Discernment of Holy Desires as a Formative Task

Matteo Ricci Hall, Room C

     09 Nov 2023 12:00 pm - 09 Nov 2023 02:00 pm

The Office of the Assistant Vice President for Ignatian Spirituality Formation would like to invite you to the lecture of Ms Eva Galvey, Ozanam Awardee at the 2022 Traditional University Awards, titled “Sifting through the Good: Discernment of Holy Desires as a Formative Task.”

Ms Galvey’s lecture will cover the following points.

  1. A fundamental human and holy desire is to become our better self, which comes from the innate attraction to the good, true, and beautiful because we are from goodness. We are imago Dei as our faith asserts.
  2. This attraction to goodness can be obscured by survival or ego needs that unconsciously turn ideals into motivations that are oppressive and self-serving.
  3. Ideals guide our human becoming, but discernment is key, as confirmed by the work of formation and accompaniment, to maintain its self-transcending nature.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, 9 November 2023 in Room C of the Matteo Ricci Hall, from 12:00 nn to 2:00 pm. Lunch will be served at 12:00 with the lecture proper starting at 12:30. Those who cannot physically attend can view it via this live stream link. https://youtu.be/MaxrlSnR5-w
