The Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the LS Gender Focal Point Committee, and the students of Socio 138.1 (Gender Relations) proudly present our TALAB 2023 event entitled “The Struggle to Be Seen: Revealing the Queer in Today’s Art and Visual Culture.” We invite everyone to come with us on a journey to appreciate the diverse forms of artistic expression queer artists navigate through the Philippine art scene amidst the country’s ever-evolving socio-cultural backdrop.

Join us and contemporary queer artists Leeroy New, Roy Narra, Martina Salamero, and Zoë de Ocampo as we answer the question: What does it mean to be “queer” in a landscape of expression but a climate of repression? Together, let us explore the intersection of art and queer identity — unveiling how these have been pivotal in promoting dialogue, demanding societal recognition and inclusion, and redefining notions of self and community.

Don’t miss out on this event! Catch us at ISO Rooms 5 & 6, 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, 17 October!
