MCR Brown Bag Session: "Research As Care"

Faber Hall 302, Ateneo de Manila University; Online

     23 May 2023 03:00 pm - 23 May 2023 05:00 pm

Reduced Inequalities
Climate Action
Partnerships for the Goals

On 23 May 2023, the My Climate Risk – Ateneo de Manila University (MCR-ADMU) Regional Hub, which is hosted by the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS), in partnership with the Ateneo Research Institute of Science and Engineering (ARISE), will hold an event titled MCR Brown Bag Session: “Research As Care” to coincide with Laudato Si’ Week.

The brown bag session will be an interdisciplinary discussion among the Collaborators of the MCR-ADMU Hub, and will be held onsite in Ateneo. The session aims to reflect on what it means for climate research to be people-centered and a form of care, to identify case studies or previous experiences that may be considered as “research as care,” and to discern people-centered approaches and methods in climate research. Guided by the Jesuit characteristic of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, this event is also aligned with the Laudato Si’ encyclical on Care for Our Common Home, and Laudato Si’ Goals 1 and 2, Response to the Cry of the Earth and Response to the Cry of the Poor, respectively.

MCR Brown Bag Session: "Research As Care," A Laudato Si' Week Event

This is consistent with the aim of My Climate Risk (MCR), a lighthouse activity of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), to develop and mainstream bottom-up approaches to understanding regional climate risk by cultivating communities of practice through a mycorrhizal network of hubs around the world. To this end, the MCR-ADMU Hub has previously hosted a number of webinars in the last year, which highlight different experiences of climate change, how contexts and experiences inform research design and management plans, and the role of open climate science in just and equitable climate action.

The event is open to colleagues from the global MCR hubs through Zoom. Part of the program will also be open to the Ateneo community onsite, but slots are limited. To register for the onsite event, members of the Ateneo community may access this form. Deadline for onsite registration is 19 May 2023.
