The webinar will feature Ms. Luz Rimban, Dr. Estelle Ladrido, and Dr. Ariel Ponce. Ms. Luz Rimban will discuss the limitations of the coverage of the 2017 Marawi siege that resulted in very few stories that helped the public make sense of what was going on, or stories on the conflict from the point of view of the Meranaw. The media hardly touched on the massive disaster that was unfolding, and the consequences for the people of Marawi. On the other hand, Dr. Ladrido and Dr. Ponce will talk about how news representations separate and marginalize minorities. They looked into Mindanao news viewers’ interpretations of how Mindanao is represented on a news program.
