[AGS] Week of the Elderly
The elders have nearly a lifetime of experience. They comprise a generation that survived The Great Depression. They have much to teach about enduring change and handling life's adversities.
Recognizing the past helps us to improve the present. If we can situate ourselves among those who have come before us, we can better understand how things got to be the way they are now.
While it is good to attend to the present issues and look toward the future with hope, let us not forget the importance of remembering the past. "Memory is given to man for some wise purpose."
In a way, the past serves as a mirror through which we can see the hazy lines of the future, and by which we may make them more symmetrical.
May their role in our lives continue to share the lessons of the past, witness to the youth their perseverance and faith, and impart the wisdom that will prepare us for the future.
