More and more educational systems the world over are introducing mathematical modelling
(MM) in their schools. In the ASEAN region, this movement has been led by Singapore and
Viet Nam, both already specifying mathematical modelling to be part of their basic education
curricula. Using the notion of didactic praxeologies from the Anthropological Theory of the
Didactic (ATD), data were taken from three Filipino teachers at the college level through a
triangulated mix of in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and classroom observations.
The emergence of four teacher task types (T) together with their complementary pairs (∼ T)
led to variations of modelling activities in the classroom. These variations yield a working
framework to understand how Filipino teacher’s design and facilitate modelling activities in
their own practice.
