Webinar Series: Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) Experiences and Insights on Collaborations with Enterprises

online

     22 Apr 2022 04:00 pm - 06 May 2022 05:30 pm

Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
webinar schedule

AIPO was established in June 2019 to promote the newly-approved Intellectual Property (IP) policy of the Ateneo de Manila University and to provide support for the generation, protection and commercialization of (mainly) University-developed technologies. In pursuing its mandate, AIPO engages with organizations and agencies from industry, government, and other academic institutions. It also has a Technology Business Incubation (TBI) program that hosts startup enterprises and provides business development and other relevant services to these.

This 3-part webinar series is intended for the SECRA consortium members and possibly other interested parties. It is designed to facilitate discussion of AIPO’s experiences and insights related to business incubation, enterprise engagement, and the role of IP in sustaining UEC particularly in resilience. It is hoped that through the discussions, the consortium will learn from both the mistakes and successes of AIPO and will be better equipped to handle similar challenges that may come up as the consortium sets up Communities of Practice for UEC in climate action and disaster resilience.

Webinar Schedules:

Part 1: Experiences in Business Incubation

22 April 2022 (Fri), 4:00-5:00pm (GMT+8, Philippine Standard Time)

AIPO describes in this webinar its Technology Business Incubation (TBI) program, including its brief history, admission procedures, support services available, and a profile of its incubated startups. Some stories about actual challenges and successes of selected startups are shared in this session. The session ends with a presentation of the TBI’s own challenges as it aims to become self-sustaining in the near future.

Part 2: Experiences in Enterprise Engagement

29 April 2022 (Fri), 4:00-5:00pm (GMT+8, Philippine Standard Time)

In this webinar, AIPO shares its experiences in engaging with the business sector. The discussion focuses on three general types of engagement: (1) Technology Pitching, (2) Reverse Pitching and (3) Co-development of Research Projects. Actual examples of each are provided together with some insights gained after further reflections on these implementations.

Part 3: Role of IP in Sustaining UEC for Disaster Resilience

6 May 2022 (Fri), 4:00-5:30pm (GMT+8, Philippine Standard Time)

Registration link - https://bit.ly/Reg_SECRAWP4Webinar3_May6

As some of the participants may not have much background in Intellectual Property (IP) rights, this (slightly longer) webinar begins with teaching some fundamental concepts and principles about IP. This is followed by a presentation of how we can leverage the IP system to sustain UEC for resilience. To provide concrete examples, at least two resilience-related AIPO startups are discussed. Included in the discussion are each startup’s current status and main business model identified to sustain its initiatives.
