Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan (SLB), the socio-political apostolate of the Society of Jesus in the Philippines, would like to invite you to watch their online radio show called “The New People Power” LIVE. They will interview well-known members of the academic community and respond to questions from the audience through Facebook.

The New People Power

Born during the period of democratic transition of our country from the Marcos dictatorship, SLB grew into a civic organization that has since been engaged with citizenship and political empowerment programs as concrete manifestations of its commitment to contribute to a continuous building of our nation based on the ideals of a genuine democracy.

As SLB's 36th anniversary event, their webinar, “The New People Power” seeks to unpack the many issues and perceptions surrounding the People Power Revolution and how these relate to the upcoming 2022 Election:

  • The majority of the Filipino electorate is the youth. Will the complex story of the People Power Revolution and the values and promises it represents still factor in the electoral and political decisions of our young voters?
  • Why is the counter-narrative of the Marcoses popular among this generation?
  • Is there a new collective understanding of the 1986 Revolution that more accurately defines the sentiments of the Filipinos of today? And if so, should we embrace, or reject it?

Through this webinar, and with the help of deeply experienced resource persons, we are hoping that we can spark meaningful conversations about these issues in your own community and beyond. Please RSVP at: https://fb.me/e/2oz7yu1gp.
