Join us for an ArtSpeak session this Museums and Galleries month as we invite visual artists Celine Lee, Christina Lopez, and Miguel Lorenzo Uy, whose exhibits were shortlisted in the 2021 Ateneo Art Awards. In this online talk, they will discuss their respective shows and how they utilized technologies like 3D printing, coding, AI, and video to interpret their works.

Celine Lee was shortlisted for her solo exhibition, The Length and Breadth of Depth, held at Underground Makati last 13 November - 4 December 2020. Since the beginning of her artistic career, Lee has been producing works with the use of different materials and media; often focusing on process and materiality.

Christina Lopez was one of the winners of the 2021 Ateneo Art Awards - Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art. Her exhibition titled Portraits (Proxies), held at The Drawing Room last March 2020, utilized artificial intelligence to reflect on how identities are weaponized and co-opted by the neoliberal machine alongside new technologies.

Miguel Lorenzo Uy's works revolve around immediate concerns with regards to beliefs, technology, and media. His shortlisted exhibit 'I am that I am' that was held this year dissects these ever shifting roles brought about by the rapid acceleration of technology.

This upcoming ArtSpeak Online event will be moderated by 2021 Ateneo Art Awards - Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes for Art Criticism winner, Carla T. Gamalinda.

Carla Gamalinda is a visual artist, a researcher, and an art teacher. She is a fellow of the 2015 J. Elizalde Navarro National Workshop on Critical and Cultural Heritage Studies and is one of the curators selected for Proto/Para: Rethinking Curatorial Work, an exhibit that is part of the 2020 Curatorial Development Workshop of University of the Philippines’ Jorge Vargas Museum. She won the 2021 Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize for The Philippine Star for her essay titled “Art and the inevitable crisis of the screens”.
