New Dean of the Ateneo School of Government
Upon the recommendation of the Search Committee for the School of Government Dean, and with the approval of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Jennifer “Apple” S Oreta as Dean of the Ateneo School of Government for an initial 3-year term, from 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2028.
Dr Oreta is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and currently serves as Director of the Ricardo Leong Institute for Global and Area Studies at the Dr Rosita G Leong School of Social Sciences. Dr Oreta has decades of experience in Ateneo as faculty and administrator, as well as in De La Salle University. A well-respected researcher and public intellectual in the areas of national security, peace building, and human rights, Apple was a former government appointee, as Assistant Secretary, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (2012 – 2016). She has an extensive body of research and publications, provides government consultancy services, and has a breadth of experience in political involvement.
Dr Oreta holds a PhD in Political Science (2009) from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. She earned her MA in Education Management (1997) and BA in Political Science (1988) from De La Salle University, Manila.
On behalf of Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Apple for her magnanimity in accepting this new mission to lead the Ateneo School of Government.
We thank Dr Randy Tuaño for shepherding the Ateneo School of Government as Dean since 2022, and we congratulate him for his recent appointment as President of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS).
We express our deep appreciation for the work done by the Search Committee for the School of Government Dean, whose members are Dr Anna Marie A Karaos (Chair), Ms Ma Cristina M Alikpala, Dr Raphael A Guerrero, Dr Enrique Niño P Leviste, and Dr Angelita Gregorio-Medel.
