SUBJECT
Decommissioning of Old LED Board and Transition to New LED Board
In 2011, the university’s LuxID (Lux in Domino) LED board was installed to enhance campus communications and engage the community. This project was made possible through a generous donation from the 2013 HS Jubilarian Class (GS 1959, HS 1963, College 1967), which provided the initial LED display system that has served the community for well over a decade. Thank you, 2013 Jubilarian Class (GS 1959, HS 1963, College 1967).
Over time, as technology advanced, and the cost and effort of maintenance and repair have increased, we realized that the board has well exceeded its practical operational lifespan.
The existing board will be decommissioned this Lent, and will be shut down beginning Sunday, 9 March 2025.
We acknowledge the historical significance of the current LuxID LED board, having served as a vital communication tool for university events and campaigns over the years. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we are installing a new LED board starting 10 March 2025 and it will be completed by the end of April 2025.
The new board is funded entirely by savings, revenue, and donations related to the original 2011 LuxID board. The new LED board is clearer, with a higher resolution square display. We will publish new guidelines when we resume operations, and all sectors who utilized the original LuxID board will be able to take advantage of the new one.
This transition represents a continued commitment to enhancing campus-wide digital engagement. For any concerns or necessary coordination, please email UMCO.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
