New University Librarian and Rizal Library Executive Team

I’m pleased to announce our new University Librarian, Ms Joenabie E Arevalo.
Ms Arevalo has been the Head Librarian and Supervisor of the Rizal Library Ortigas, Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, since December 2007. She’s also the Deputy University Librarian for Reader Services in the reorganized Rizal Library in Higher Education.
As a licensed librarian, Ms Arevalo was 5th place in the Librarian Licensure Examination in 2004. Her professional experience includes work as a librarian for Nestle Philippines, Enderun Colleges, and Ongkiko Kalaw Manhit & Acorda Law Offices. She also served as a Records Assistant for the Economics and Research Department Central File at the Asian Development Bank.
Ms Arevalo got her Bachelor of Library and Information Science (Cum Laude) from the University of the Philippines, Diliman in 2004. From the same university, she also obtained her Master of Library and Information Science in 2011. She is currently working toward a PhD in Education at the Gokongwei Brothers School of Education and Learning Design.
Ms Arevalo is Adviser to the Medical and Health Librarians Association of the Philippines and a member of the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. She has actively participated in research activities and conferences that involve developments in library science and information systems.
The Rizal Library Executive Team
Ms Arevalo is formally assuming the post of University Librarian beginning January 2026. In the meantime, the following will take on the role of Acting University Librarian for the periods stated:
1. Ms Engracia S. Santos, current Deputy University Librarian for Special Collections: Acting University Librarian from 1 September to 31 December 2024
2. Ms Ma. Theresa B Villanueva, Deputy University Librarian for Administration: Acting University Librarian from 1 January to 31 December 2025.
Ms Arevalo, Ms Santos, and Ms. Villanueva will form the Executive Team of the Rizal Library from 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2025, together with Ms Sonia Lourdes L David, Deputy University Librarian for Technical Services. They will work together to advance the goals, implement the strategic plans, and take the lead in implementing the activities of the Rizal Library.
