Guidelines on Work from Home in the Event of a Union Strike (OVPHR memo)

15 Mar 2023 | Office of the Vice President for Human Resources

15 March 2023

MEMO TO:

All Administrators, Professionals and Staff

FROM:

[Sgd.] Maria Victoria T Cortez PhD
Vice President for Human Resources

RE:

Guidelines on Work from Home in the Event of a Union Strike

To ensure that University operations are not hampered, and that delivery of services continue for the community during a union strike, the following guidelines are being issued for the shift to offsite work or work from home (WFH) arrangements:

  1. Shift to WFH. Be ready to shift to WFH on the first day of the strike. In case you are already in your office on the first day of the strike, you will continue working onsite until end of day and start WFH the following day.

  2. WFH Schedule. Follow the regular reporting work hours assigned to you as if you were on onsite mode. This will ensure that services are available during and in synch with regular operations of the University.

  3. Security of Work Implements. Be responsible for materials, files, and/or equipment that will be needed during WFH. Secure them properly while in transit and/or stored in your temporary offsite workspaces to avoid loss, damage, or theft. If any of the materials, files, or equipment are compromised, follow promptly the reporting protocols for such incidences.

  4. Reporting Onsite for Critical Roles. As some critical roles will be needed onsite during the strike, make yourself available if called upon by your supervisor to report to work onsite.

  5. Announcements. Official announcements shall be released by the University Marketing and Communications Office and other University officials. Stay tuned to Blueboard, and the University social media channels for announcements.

  6. Resumption of Onsite Work. Onsite work will resume the next day immediately following the end of the strike.

Even while we firm up our preparations for a WFH shift, let us offer our prayers for the Admin Panel and the Union Panel who continue to work on a possible settlement of the remaining issues in the CBA before the DOLE-Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board.
