SUBJECT

Dean of the School of Education and Learning Design

Upon the recommendation of the Search Committee for the Dean of the new School of Education and Learning Design (SEALD) and with the approval of the Executive Committee of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Fr Johnny C Go SJ as Dean of the SEALD for an initial term, from 1 April 2021 to 31 May 2024.

Fr Johnny is an Associate Professor of the Department of Education and is Director of the Ateneo de Manila Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching (SALT) which he established in 2017. He also serves as the Education Secretary for Asia Pacific of the Jesuit Conference of Asia-Pacific since 2016. From 2015 -2019, he was a member of the CHED Teacher Education Technical Panel.

Fr Johnny holds an EdD from UCL Institute of Education, University College London, UK and National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (2016). He obtained his MA in Theology (1998), MA in Philosophy (1992) and AB Psychology (1983) from Ateneo de Manila University.

Prior to teaching in Ateneo de Manila, he served as Executive Director of Jesuit Communications Foundation (JESCOM) from 1997-2002, and as President of Xavier School in San Juan City from 2001-2013. He was a Board Member of the Ateneo de Manila University Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2013.

On behalf of the Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Fr Johnny for his generosity in accepting this mission to lead the School of Education and Learning Design and for his dedication and leadership in establishing this fifth Loyola School.

As mentioned in an earlier memo, the SEALD constitutes the university’s strategic response to the challenges of Philippine education and signals our re-commitment to our important mission in the national educational landscape. It will offer our current array of master’s programs in education and eventually, distinctive undergraduate and doctoral programs.

We express our deep appreciation for the work done by the SEALD Search Committee, whose members are Dr Fernando T Aldaba (Chair), Mr Ronald Allan L Cruz, Dr Ma Assunta C Cuyegkeng, Dr Angela Fatima H Guzon, Dr Rhodora F Nicdao, Dr Marianne Rachel G Perfecto, and Dr Wilhelm Patrick Joseph S Strebel.

Let us support our new School of Education and Learning Design and its Dean with our cooperation and prayers.

(Sgd) Roberto C Yap SJ
President
