Memo # U2223-005
30 June 2022

Memo to                  :

The University Community

Subject                     :

Appointment of Ms Janice S Bello as Chief Information Officer & Vice President for Digital Information and Technology Services

Janice Bello

At its meeting on 27 June 2022, the Executive Committee of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Ms Janice S Bello as Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Digital Information and Technology Services (CIO & VP-DITS) for a term effective 18 July 2022 to 31 May 2025.

A seasoned IT expert, Ms Bello brings to the Ateneo her more than 20 years' experience in enterprise applications, databases, infrastructure, and operations management in utility industries, notably with Meralco where she spent 17 of those years (2004 to 2021). As a technical specialist who is process and quality-oriented, Ms Bello assumed different roles in Meralco as Head of Systems Monitoring & Applications Management, Head of IT Infrastructure Management, and Database Administrator. In her most recent stint at Globe Telecom, Ms Bello worked as Infrastructure & Technology Services (ITS) – Operations & Maintenance, Cloud Technologies & Infrastructure Head while leading the company’s ITS multi-cloud strategy and workload transformation program.

Ms Bello obtained her BS in Statistics (2000) from University of the Philippines in Diliman, QC where she also took graduate courses in Technology Management. She also took the Advanced Management Program at the Asian Institute of Management (2019).

As mentioned in an earlier memo, the CIO & VP-DITS will serve as the University’s executive with overall leadership, accountability, and oversight for governance, strategy, and management of DITS and the University’s multi-disciplinary digital transformation initiative. This management action signifies the University's commitment to focus on and support the strategic priority area of Education Reform and Transformation, especially the Magis Aspiration of becoming a premier digital university.

On behalf of the University, I thank Ms Bello for accepting this new appointment and for her willingness to serve in our shared mission that is the Ateneo de Manila. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr Rodolfo P Ang for overseeing the IT cluster since January 2021. With the creation of the VP-DITS position, the Information Technology Resource Management Office (ITRMO), and other IT functions across the University will now be consolidated under the DITS cluster.

I would also like to thank the Search Committee for their dedication and thorough conduct of the search process: Dr Chito B Salazar (Chair), Mr Rodolfo P Ang, Ms Maria Rosario A Banzon, Ms Eloisa D Balmoris, Dr Maria Victoria T Cortez, Dr Fabian M Dayrit, and Dr John Paul C Vergara.

Let us support our new CIO & VP-DITS with our usual cooperation and prayers.

(Sgd) Roberto C Yap SJ
President
