Subject : New Dean of the Ateneo School of Government

Upon the recommendation of the Search Committee for the School of Government Dean, and with the approval of the Executive Committee of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Philip Arnold “Randy” P Tuaño as Dean of the Ateneo School of Government for an initial 3-year term, from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2025.
Dr Tuaño is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics where he serves as Chair. Randy has been with the University for over 30 years in different capacities. He was Program Officer and Assistant Coordinator of the Office for Social Concern and Involvement (1989 – 1995) and Program Manager of the Center for Social Policy and Public Affairs (1996 – 1999). He is also a lecturer at the School of Government since 2005, and currently serves as the Program Manager for SDGs at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability.
Randy holds a PhD (2015) and MA (2001) in Economics from the University of the Philippines. He also has an MA in Development Economics (1996) from the University of Sussex. He obtained his AB Economics from Ateneo de Manila University in 1989.
Outside the academe, Randy was Director III at the Macropolicy Unit of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (2001 – 2004), Development Associate at the Peace and Equity Foundation (2004 – 2008), and Researcher for the Caucus of Development NGO Networks (2009 – 2010). He is also actively involved in external networks as Project Coordinator for the Human Development Network (2015 – present), and as Acting Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Philippine Chapter (2016 – present).
On behalf of the Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Randy for his magnanimity in accepting this new mission to lead the Ateneo School of Government.
We also thank Dr Ronald U Mendoza for his commendable service as Dean of the Ateneo School of Government since 2016. Under Dr Mendoza's stewardship, the Ateneo School of Government launched new initiatives that allowed the University to better engage the public sector through strengthened policy research and thought leadership of the Ateneo Policy Center, wider outreach to new audiences via the Executive Education program, and the expansion of scholarship opportunities for public servant leaders in the Academic Program.
We express our deep appreciation for the work done by the Search Committee for the School of Government Dean, whose members are Dr Benjamin T Tolosa Jr (Chair), Ms Ma Cristina M Alikpala, Fr Patrick Dominador Z Falguera SJ, and Dr Ruth Rosario D Gerochi.
Let us support the new Dean of the Ateneo School of Government with our cooperation and prayers.
