REQUESTING DESIGN SUPPORT

The University’s LuxID (Lux in Domino) LED board has resumed operations as of Easter Sunday, 20 April 2025. Requests for posting will be accepted beginning Monday, 21 April 2025.

This new board is funded entirely by savings, revenue, and donations related to the original 2011 LuxID board. The new LED board is clearer, with a higher resolution square display. Here are the updated guidelines for videos for the new LuxID.

WHAT IS LUXID

LuxID is Ateneo de Manila University’s outdoor electronic billboard located near Gate 3 of the Loyola Heights campus. It is used to promote Ateneo-related events, announcements, and initiatives. Advertising on LuxID is available to official University offices, schools, accredited student and alumni organizations, and campus-based affiliates or tenants.

WHO MAY ADVERTISE ON LUXID

The following groups may request to post content:

  • Ateneo academic and administrative units (e.g., schools, offices, departments, centers, hubs)
  • Accredited student organizations
  • Recognized alumni organizations, for alumni-related activities (e.g., homecomings, fundraising, outreach)
  • Campus-based affiliates, auxiliaries, and tenants, for activities relevant to the community
  • Official events held inside Ateneo campuses, including conferences, lectures, and workshops

Note: Advertising or materials promoting external sponsors or commercial products are generally not allowed.

HOW TO REQUEST A POSTING
  • Submit your request using this form https://go.ateneo.edu/LuxID-Request at least one week before your preferred posting date.
  • For requests by Ateneo de Manila academic and administrative units, only activities and information already posted on the University website will be entertained.
  • All scheduling, playback, and takedown decisions are at UMCO’s discretion.
  • UMCO reserves the right to approve, reschedule, or decline content.

DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR LUXID

The LuxID digital billboard is a high-visibility platform designed to share important University messages with motorists, pedestrians, and the Ateneo community. Slides must be clear, safe, and legible at a glance, even from a distance or peripheral view.

The following guidelines will help you create content that is visually effective, institutionally aligned, and suitable for display.

Types of Content and How to Design Them

Event Promotions

Used for activities with fixed schedules—such as lectures, workshops, performances, conferences, or registration deadlines.

Include:

  • Event title
  • Date and time
  • Organizer
  • Venue (if applicable)
  • QR code or link (optional)

Tips:

  • Present one key detail per slide for maximum legibility.
  • Use a consistent header or footer to keep essential info visible throughout a multi-slide sequence.
  • Highlight calls to action: Register Now, Open to All, Apply Today

Announcements

Used for institutional reminders, public advisories, calls for applications, or policy updates.

Include:

  • Clear heading or alert label
  • Brief core message
  • Optional contact info or link

Tips:

  • A single, well-designed slide is often best.
  • Keep it concise, direct, and easy to scan.

Institutional or Inspirational Messaging

Used for values-based messages, campaigns, seasonal themes, or general community encouragement.

Include:

  • One powerful idea or statement
  • Campaign names or school/office/center identity are secondary and optional

Tips:

  • Prioritize visual impact and emotional clarity.
  • Avoid designs that are too abstract or heavily styled.
  • Still follow all layout and text rules for legibility.

Visual and Layout Standards

  • Text must be large and legible.
    • At least 5% of the screen height. Larger is preferred.
    • Use clean sans-serif fonts like Avenir, Figtree, or Roboto
  • Use high-contrast color combinations.
    • White or yellow text on a black or dark blue background is preferred
    • Avoid light-on-light or overly bright backgrounds
  • Limit each slide to one idea or message.
    • Keep text to 15–20 words or fewer
  • Leave at least 5% margin around all edges to avoid text cut-off.
  • Each slide must be readable in 3 seconds or less.

Animation & Layout

  • Avoid fast transitions or excessive movement, which may distract motorists and reduce legibility.
  • For multi-slide/shot designs:
    • Keep effects and transitions smooth and minimal
    • Consolidate onto one slide each key visual and each key piece of information
      • Avoid multiple angles and rapid cuts for key visuals
      • Avoid juxtaposing and mashing up multiple visuals
      • Don’t break up information and details
      • Don’t mash up unrelated information
  • Ensure essential details appear on each slide (header/footer is best)

Branding & Permissions

  • Do not use bright or glaring background colors, especially for nighttime visibility.
  • Do not include commercial sponsor logos.
  • Use of the University seal requires prior approval from UMCO.
  • If applicable, follow Ateneo’s official brand colors and typography for consistency.
QR CODES AND SHORTENED LINKS

You may include QR codes and short links in your LuxID slides to direct viewers to registration forms, event details, or official pages. These tools help make your message actionable—but only if they’re easy to scan, read, and trust.

QR Code Guidelines

  • Use high-resolution QR code images, at least 20% the height of the video (180x180px in the default 1200px video)
  • Place QR codes away from slide edges, with at least 5% margin on all sides.
  • Maintain a clear “quiet zone” around the code—no nearby text or graphics.
  • Ensure high contrast: black or blue on white or light backgrounds (or the reverse) work best.
  • Test the code on a mobile phone from a distance before submitting.
  • Don’t rely solely on the QR code. Include a shortened, descriptive link or call-to-action near it (e.g., “Visit ateneo.edu/apply”).

Short Link Guidelines

  • Always use official ateneo.edu links or those from University-managed domains.
  • Avoid third-party link shorteners like Bitly, TinyURL, or Rebrandly, as they may appear untrustworthy, expire, or break unexpectedly.
  • If your link is long, request a University-generated short URL at go.ateneo.edu/RequestShortURL.
  • Never display a full Google Forms or lengthy dynamic link. Use clean, readable URLs whenever possible.
  • Rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t click on the link at a glance, don’t expect others to.
REQUESTING DESIGN SUPPORT

While most units and organizations are expected to prepare their own slides, UMCO may offer limited design support for high-priority University-wide campaigns, including:

  • Admissions
  • Commencements
  • Major institutional events or celebrations

If you believe your request qualifies, please compile all the information you need to communicate, and clarify your objectives. You may then contact the University Marketing and Communications Office at least two weeks before your intended posting date.

UMCO reserves the right to accept, defer, or decline design requests based on workload, timing, and alignment with University priorities.

For all other needs, we encourage units to follow these guidelines and develop their own materials. Questions? Contact the University Marketing and Communications Office.
