Systems Thinking Approaches for Resilience

Climate and Disaster Resilience

Systems thinking approaches can be integrated into planning processes to help enhance resilience, for example, by diagnosing feedback structures and leverage points, fostering dialogue and helping articulate coherent storylines of the future.

Under the project Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines (CCARPH), the CDR program members, who also formed the Systems Team of the project, compiled a book entitled the City Resilience Toolkit (CResT): A Compendium of Systems Thinking Activities for Resilience Planning. A few of these activities were piloted in a research or classroom setting, but there is still much opportunity for testing and improvement. The CDR program will continue with the implementation of these activities for different sectors.
