This packet was developed for the Sustainable Eco Theatre, the recipient of the 2022 Areté + AIS Sustainability Sandbox Grant, a residency grant that provides resources for incubation and experimentation. This grant is dedicated to issues of sustainability and Ateneo de Manila University’s thrust towards integral ecology.
Consistent with the aims of the Sustainable Eco Theatre, this packet is a compilation of strategies that theatre groups and similar practitioners may use as a reference for a more sustainable theatre production. The journey of sustainability is long, arduous, and imperfect. Despite this, it is also an eye-opening and rewarding experience that acknowledges our interconnectedness with the environment and other people. It is the hope of AIS that this document can provide guidance and resources to groups who are interested in the pursuit of sustainability.
This document discusses relevant principles for making theatre more sustainable, approaches and strategies, practical tools, and case studies.
The packet may be accessed HERE. We encourage theatre groups and like-minded organizations to use the document and to provide us any feedback! It is our hope to someday populate the packet with case studies from the Philippines and from the Southeast Asian region. You may write to us at ais@ateneo.edu.
