The Ateneo Wild project has been documenting reports of bird window strike incidents throughout the Loyola Heights campus. Because birds have a hard time distinguishing the reflections of the sky and trees on glass windows, they can often collide at high speeds. Many birds are injured or even killed by this. Lack of local research of window strikes and prevention initiatives highlight the need to study and prevent this urban threat to birds.
These bird window decals were procured through the Bird Window Strikes PH citizen science project from Birdgard. The regularly spaced dots break up the reflection, helping birds to avoid the glass.
Let's help protect our campus birds from this danger! Kindly contact AIS if you would like to sponsor windows for retrofitting.
