The Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) was established in 2013 as the hub of the university’s environment-development agenda under then President Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin. Today, we continue our mission as the university hub of sustainability, with a deeper appreciation for this mission as inspired by the reflections of the Laudato Si’ on integral ecology, and serve as the vehicle of the university’s environment-development agenda towards the achieving the Ateneo de Manila University strategic goals:
- To mainstream sustainable development;
- To reduce disaster risk due to climate change and other geohazards; and
- To build a sustainable campus
To achieve the strategic goals, the AIS
- Engages stakeholders through consultation and participation in surveys, discussions, and workshops;
- Connects with university stakeholders as well as partners in communities, business, global organizations and networks to achieve sustainable development goals; and
- Prepares stakeholders by deepening their competencies, culture, and commitment to sustainability and resilience
As a Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit University, the Ateneo de Manila seeks to preserve, to extend, and to communicate truth and apply it to the development of persons and the preservation of their environment.
Vision
AIS is a leader and catalyst for mainstreaming integral ecology and transforming partners into sustainable and resilient communities.
Mission
Our mission is to promote integral ecology and a culture of sustainability and resilience across the University and its partners through incubating and mainstreaming innovative practices.
